The impact of school holidays on home businesses

Direct Line for Business research has revealed that 60 per cent of the 844,000 home business entrepreneurs with children step away from their business to be with their kids during school holidays.

As a result, these home business owners lose four hours of working time every day, or 20 hours per working week. We predict that this collectively costs home businesses around £658 million during the six week summer holiday.

Despite the cost, our research reveals that in addition to spending time with their children, parents are able to teach worthwhile lessons to their kids. Three in ten parents suggest that their children learn entrepreneurial skills and over a quarter of children learn the value of work. To find out more, check out our infographic below and our news section
