12/12/2008 - Ram-raid gang targets village ATMs

A number of incidents involving overnight raids on cash machines in Kent may be linked, police have said.

The failed ram-raids on village shops in Canterbury Road, Lyminge, Churchfield Way, Wye, and Honywood Road, Lenham, all occurred between 10pm and 3am on Thursday night and Friday morning.

Officers said that in all incidents the thieves left empty-handed after failing to remove the ATMs from their locations.

A spokeswoman for Kent Police said: "In each case two 4x4 vehicles were used in ram raids on shops in an attempt to remove the cash machines."

Police have recovered one of the vehicles and are appealing for anyone who saw suspicious activity in the areas to call Crimestoppers.
