30/04/2009 - Fencing company hit by baby boom
The management at a fencing company has been left wondering if there is "something in the water" after more than half its staff announced they are expecting babies this summer.
Six out of 10 fencers and landscapers at Dorset-based company Stag are getting ready to greet new arrivals between July and September.
The firm's secretary, Holly Davis, said: "It's very strange. Everybody is quite shocked that amount of guys could all have pregnant wives and girlfriends at the same time."
The fathers-to-be include first-timers Graham Pearce, Jake Entwistle and brothers Daniel and Christopher Andrews, while Pete Deans and Andrew Southern already have children. But the firm has no plans to start its own crèche.
Manager Dave Hinton said the baby boom could see half the workforce take off at the same time.
He added: "Holly has been making jokes with the guys because we have just moved premises that it must be something in the water, so we have banned staff from drinking it."
