26/08/2009 - B&Q removes contaminated plant food
DIY giant B&Q has taken some of its plant food range off the shelves after a test by a magazine discovered that it was contaminated.
Which? Gardening magazine completed the test using Organic Living Tomato Food. Researchers observed that it had a similar effect on plants to using weed killer and tests on the product found that it had been contaminated with a herbicide. The company moved swiftly to take if off the shelves.
A B&Q spokeswoman said: "As a responsible retailer, B&Q takes product quality and integrity exceptionally seriously. We are very concerned about the Which? test results and, as a precautionary measure, we have withdrawn this product from sale.
"B&Q requires all of its suppliers to meet the highest standards and has comprehensive processes in place to ensure that all the products we sell are of the necessary quality."
