28/08/2009 - Burkha raider steals £275,000 watches
Watches worth more than £275,000 have been stolen in an armed robbery carried out by a man wearing a burkha, police said.
The burkha-wearer and two other men used a sledgehammer and handguns to terrify staff at Michael Jones Jewellers in Banbury, Oxfordshire.
The watches were initially thought to be worth £150,000, but Thames Valley Police has now upped the figure to £279,000. Watches made by Rolex, Cartier and Breitling were among the 64 stolen in the raid. Although no one was injured, staff were said to be "very shaken" by the incident.
A second car which is believed to have been involved in the raid is now being searched for by Police. Det Insp Steve Duffy, investigating the incident, said: "We are already aware the three offenders left the shop and got into a black Audi A4 estate that was being driven by a fourth man.
"We now suspect a second car, a silver BMW three series estate car with an X-reg plate, was also part of the robbery and driven by a fifth offender."
