05/08/2009 - Hotel raiders lock guests in fridge
Two guests were locked in a kitchen fridge during a "harrowing" incident when a gang of five robbers raided a luxury hotel in Ireland.
The raid happened early in the morning when a group of armed men stormed into the Arklow Bay Hotel in County Wicklow, attempting to gain access to the main safe.
The robbers managed to grab a small amount of cash in the robbery that lasted for half an hour, before they escaped in a car thought to have belonged to the couple.
The owner of the hotel, Brian Brennan, revealed that the raiders grabbed the couple, tied them up and locked them in the fridge.
Mr Brennan said it was a "frightening and harrowing" experience. "These people arrived out of the room and they were accosted, tied up and locked in one of the fridges in the main kitchen."
The captive pair were released by a night porter, who was also tied up by the raiders near the kitchen area but managed to free himself.
Gardai, who are hunting the gang, confirmed there were no injuries and no guns were used in the raid.
