10/08/2009 - Jewellery thieves arrived in taxi
Two smartly-dressed men arrived by taxi at one of central London's prestigious jewellers and then took a woman hostage before releasing her and escaping with handfuls of jewels.
The men had arrived by black cab at Graff Diamonds in New Bond Street, Mayfair, walked inside and then threatened a member of staff with a gun.
Having left the store they let the woman, believed to be a member of staff, go and fired a shot into the ground before escaping in a blue BMW, later found abandoned in nearby Dover Street after crashing into a taxi.
The men, one described as white and the other black, then got into a silver Mercedes after firing a second round into the ground to deter chasing members of the public.
Police are appealing for the driver of the taxi, who dropped the men right outside the shop, to get in touch with them.
