24/12/2009 - Bullock rages through Birmingham
People in Birmingham had an unexpected shock as a bullock charged through the busy city streets on Thursday morning.
The animal, which escaped from an abattoir, was seen in Balsall Heath. A vet and specialist firearm officers were called out to deal with the bullock and roads were closed off as the animal charged through the streets. The animal was eventually shot dead.
A West Midlands Police spokeswoman said: "The vet's assessment was it would be a too dangerous to tranquillise due to the animal being unpredictable and it being a busy built-up area so the decision was made to destroy the animal to ensure public safety."
The bullock died instantly and the roads were later reopened, she said.
