18/12/2009 - Ritchie pub slammed by authorities

A pub in Mayfair co-owned by film director Guy Ritchie has been brought to book by the authorities following a series of complaints.

Over the past 18 months, there have been 70 complaints about rowdy drunken crowds at The Punch Bowl in the swanky west London neighbourhood. Guy Ritchie and his business partner took over in May 2008, and since then the paparazzi have camped out in the neighbourhood along with crowds hoping to catch a glimpse of famous clientele.

Customers will not be able to drink outside after 8pm and smokers will be restricted to a certain area after that time, the City of Westminster said. Staff will have to make regular checks outside for glasses and litter.

Local residents had complained about crowds of up to 150 people spilling out and drinking in the middle of the road, noise levels and broken glass.

Other complaints included that rubbish left out by the staff caused a rat infestation and that customers at the pub would urinate against their houses.

Traffic to the pub has also jammed the road up, residents claim. Private parties, including Ritchie's 40th birthday party in September last year, have been held at the pub, which is on a tour bus route.
