07/12/2009 - Turkeys get security from theft
In order to protect turkeys from theft in the weeks before Christmas, a poultry supplier has given the birds their own 24-hour security service.
Traditional Norfolk Poultry Ltd, a major supplier to supermarket chain Asda, has decided to better be safe than sorry with a security guard to protect its free range turkeys following a rise in thefts.
Mark Lawton, Asda's customer planner of fresh meat and fish, said: "Day and night our security guard has a bird's eye view of our precious gobblers.
"We can now sleep easy at night knowing our precious turkeys are in safe hands.
"It means that customers are guaranteed a fresh, tasty and juicy turkey on Christmas Day."
In 2007 hundreds of geese bound for Prince Charles' organic food brand Duchy Originals were stolen from a farm near Okehampton, Devon.
