06/07/2009 - Florist repeatedly targeted by thief
A drug user has been handed a community order after he stole more than £3,000 worth of flowers from a Mayfair florist in order to fund his growing heroin habit.
40-year-old Sean Fuller of King's Cross, London, was finally arrested in October last year after waging a 20-month campaign against Wild Things florist opposite Claridges Hotel.
Southwark Crown Court heard how Fuller made off with expensive floral displays by simply picking them up then merging anonymously into large crowds of people.
The court heard how in one five-day period alone he struck no less than seven times, making off with multi-coloured arrangements worth £360.
Despite their best efforts, staff members were left puzzled after failing to identify the thief.
Having stolen the flowers, Fuller then presented them to perplexed dealers in return for drugs.
He was given a community order with a three-month residence requirement, and was told he would have to undergo a six-month drug rehabilitation program and be subject to a 12-month supervision order.
