17/07/2009 - Mid-summer Christmas cheer at pub
A pub in Cambridge has decided to stir up interest in the Yuletide season by starting its celebrations in the middle of summer.
The owner of the Milton Arms Hungry Horse said that some of its customers appeared to be enjoying the "weird and wacky idea". The pub has received two orders for large parties.
Chris Beard, 30, who took over the pub three years ago, said: "It's the middle of summer, people are all talking about the recession, doom and gloom, and seeing people look at Christmas menus is just a bit of fun."
However, the idea of fairly lights and a tree this early in the year has not gone down too well with some of the punters.
"We put up a tree a couple of days ago and it was the last thing some of the locals wanted to see so they picked it up and carried it around the bar in friendly banter," Mr Beard added.
Christmas dinner will served at the pub from November 25 until Boxing Day.
