29/06/2009 - Bosses urged to take summer breaks
A new campaign is urging managers to plan holidays this summer, arguing that time away from work can boost health and improve productivity.
According to a Chartered Management Institute (CMI) survey of 1,100 bosses, as many as 40% have not planned a summer break this year because of greater pressure at work or financial constraints.
However, nearly 89% of those polled said "they do encourage their team members to take their full holiday entitlement".
The survey also found that most of those planning a break were also expecting to keep an eye on their e-mails for work-related messages.
The campaign launched by CMI is encouraging business heads to take some "well deserved" time off.
CMI chief executive Ruth Spellman said: "It is understandable that a heavy workload and the prospect of returning to a large amount of emails and outstanding tasks can deter people from taking time off, but holiday has a positive impact on staff well-being and boosts productivity."
