04/06/2009 - Boy 'too tall' for child's meal
Restaurant staff measured a 10-year-old boy who they considered to be too tall for a child's discounted meal, it has been reported.
Workers at the Angel Chef Chinese buffet told Ben Gardner and his family that he was nine centimetres over the 140cm limit for the meal. Dad Gareth, from Saintbridge, Gloucester, had to pay the full price of £10 for his son's meal while his partner's nine-year-old son was within the height limit. The restaurant said there is a sign at the front of the restaurant telling customers about the children's price height rule.
"I have been with Ben twice before and paid the children's price, and he hasn't grown that much in the past few months," Mr Gardner told the Gloucester Citizen.
"They haven't measured him before. How can they charge for an adult? He is only 10. It seems ludicrous they are going by height."
A spokeswoman from the national chain of Angel Chef, said: "Since last year we started charging the adult price for children over 140cm. We leave it to the discretion of the manager."
