10/06/2009 - First Lady surprises London pub
The US First Lady and her two children made a surprise visit to a traditional London pub as part of their private holiday to the capital.
Staff at The Audley pub in Mayfair, close to the American Embassy, made a booking for 25 people in the private upstairs dining room, but little did they know that three-quarters of the First Family and their entourage would be dining there.
Much to the delight of staff Michelle Obama together with Malia, 10, and Sasha, 8, made their way to the table, with the girls opting for the fish supper while Mrs Obama chose sirloin steak.
Cintia Pinto, 24, who served Mrs Obama, said: "We were all speechless when they walked in. I couldn't believe it. But they were all very friendly. Smiling and laughing.
"They made us feel calm. The girls were so sweet and polite. They thanked us every time we brought them something. It was a real honour."
The family, who were without President Barack Obama who returned to Washington after the D-Day anniversary commemorations, are reportedly continuing their sightseeing with a trip to the Pinewood Studios in Buckinghamshire, but a spokesman for the studio said he was not aware of any such plan.
