26/06/2009 - New London restaurant for TV chef

The experimental chef Heston Blumenthal has decide to cook a more traditional selection of food at his new restaurant at the Mandarin Oriental Hotel in Knightsbridge, London.

In a decision that will see him move away from his more risky creations of bacon and egg ice cream and snail porridge, the TV chef will instead take inspiration from "historic British" cuisine.

This latest venture will put Heston in direct competition with other Michelin star chefs such as Alain Ducasse and Gordon Ramsey, who run restaurants at The Dorchester and Claridge`s.

Customers looking to dine at the chef's new eatery should not go expecting the bizarre concoctions which have won his Fat Duck restaurant in Bray, Berkshire three Michelin-stars.

Instead a spokeswoman said: "It will not be the Fat Duck, there is only one Fat Duck.

"The menu will be influenced by historic British food, and will fall between the Hinds Head and the Fat Duck."

The executive chef of the Fat Duck Ashley Palmer Watts will be in charge of the kitchen at the new restaurant, which is yet to be named.
