11/06/2009 - Ten arrested over brewery theft

Police have arrested nine youngsters and a 30-year-old on suspicion of stealing alcohol from a brewery in Faversham, Kent.

The suspects, including two 12-year-olds, were held following a series of raids in the town.

Twenty police officers armed with warrants raided seven houses and seized alcohol from the premises. Evidence was previously gathered from DNA tests on samples recovered from discarded bottles and cans.

Two 13-year-olds were also among those arrested for stealing alcohol from the Shepherd Neame brewery.

Faversham neighbourhood inspector Kevin Swinney said: "We know that many of the people arrested have been involved in anti-social behaviour fuelled by alcohol.

"By arresting them, it sends out a clear message that their actions will not be tolerated."

He added that further arrests will be planned over the coming weeks.

The brewery has been working alongside Faversham Neighbourhood Watch to track down and identify those involved in the theft.
