10/03/2009 - Landlord offers pub in £20 raffle

A pub landlord in west Wales is offering locals the chance to take part in a raffle draw with the watering hole itself as the star prize.

Landlord Steve Goymer and his family took over the Plash Inn country pub in Llanfallteg, near Whitland, in 2004, after moving from the Midlands in search of a better quality of life.

Three years later his wife Christie gave birth to a son with Down's Syndrome and the couple have decided that the only way to put baby Ioan's needs first is to sell up.

Now drinkers can buy a £20 ticket via the website Winapubinwales.co.uk with the chance of becoming the new owner after the recession has made it difficult for the Goymers to sell the £600,000 property.

The website explains that long days spent in hospitals and with "more treatments needed" the time has come for them to put "our priorities in order and we reluctantly put the pub on the market".

The family needs 30,000 entries to raise their target and says that 5% of the cash raised will be split between the Down's Syndrome Foundation and the British Heart Foundation.
