21/05/2009 - Brothers set to open £2m restaurant

Two brothers are planning to open a £2 million restaurant near Spitalfields market in London this autumn.

Jeff and Chris Galvin have chosen a Grade II listed building, St Botolph's Hall in Spital Square, as the site of their third London venue.

Chris said that they had "always wanted" to open a restaurant in the City. The brothers will be assisted in running the restaurant, bar and cafe by their brother David, Chris's wife Sara and son Emile.

"It will be a space that City workers, local artists and residents will all appreciate," said Chris.

"As soon as we saw St Botolph's Hall, we knew it was the building for us. There are breathtaking original features and a detailed restoration project will create one of the City's most striking dining rooms, retaining the hall's architectural delights alongside stunning contemporary aspects in the café and bar."

The Galvin brothers are opening their new restaurant during a troubled period in the restaurant industry. PricewaterhouseCoopers says that the industry is among the most vulnerable to the shrinking economy during the recession and venues owned by Antony Worrall Thompson and Raymond Blanc have been forced to close.
