12/05/2009 - Charles praises farmers' solidarity
The Prince of Wales has praised farmers for rising up together to face some of the most "appalling disasters" their community has encountered.
He was speaking to delegates from the Arc-Addington Fund and Gloucestershire Farming Friends at a reception at his Highgrove home in Tetbury, Gloucestershire.
Charles said inviting them to Highgrove was a chance for him to express his gratitude to those "involved in helping deal with the appalling disasters that the farming community has faced".
"The fact that so many of you have responded with such generosity and so rapidly says a great deal about the solidarity within the farming community," he said.
The Arc-Addington Fund was started to help farmers during the foot and mouth disease crisis in 2001 and now works to provide rural housing schemes. The fund supported farmers who lost crops and livestock in the 2007 floods.
Gloucestershire Farming Friends was launched by a small group of farmers in 1991 to give practical advice and emotional support to those working in agriculture or living within rural communities.
