08/05/2009 - M&S backs down over bra prices
Marks and Spencer has agreed to end its policy of charging more for larger bras after a campaign by bigger-busted customers.
The "Busts 4 Justice" Facebook group was created by Beckie Williams, who was so angry that the high-street store charged more for larger bras that she bought a share in the company in order to confront chairman Sir Stuart Rose at the next annual meeting in July.
However, Marks and Spencer has bowed to pressure from the 11,000 people who joined the campaign and said it will now charge the same price for all sized bras.
In an advert printed in newspapers the shop said: "We've heard what our customers are telling us that they are unhappy with the pricing on our DD-plus bras and that basically we've boobed.
"So from Saturday May 9 no matter what size you buy, the price is going to be the same."
It added that the quality would remain the same and as a good will gesture it is offering a 25% off the price of any bra in any size until May 25.
Marks and Spencer had argued that bras with a cup size larger than double-D cost more to make so it placed a £2 surcharge on each item.
