06/05/2009 - Supermarket withdraws misspelt toys

A supermarket chain has withdrawn misspelt building blocks from its 375 stores following a customer complaint.

Suzanna Toulson bought the £3.22 educational toy for her granddaughter from a Morrisons store in Dukinfield, Greater Manchester, only to discover that the toy had incorrect spellings on it.

The building blocks have an image with a written description, with each block representing a letter in the alphabet. Y for yacht was incorrectly spelled "yatch" and U for umbrella had the description "umberlla".

A Morrisons spokeswoman said that the supermarket chain was aware of the problem and had been in the process of investigating it prior to receiving Mrs Toulson's complaint. The Chinese-made children's soft blocks have been withdrawn from all stores and customers can return the products for a full refund.

She said: "Morrisons apologises for any inconvenience caused and the issue is being investigated with suppliers."
