06/11/2009 - Hotel bans games during Christmas
In a bid to "restore traditional family values" this Christmas, one of Scotland's oldest hotels has urged families to spend time together instead of playing computer games.
Perthshire's Crieff Hydro hotel, founded in 1868, will ask families visiting them not to bring their game consoles along.
Managing director Stephen Leckie said the reason for the ban was to avoid children being "glued" to computer screens instead of spending "quality time" with their families at Christmas.
"As a father-of-four, I'm well aware of the role that computer games play in youngsters' lives and they undoubtedly have a place," Mr Leckie, the fifth generation of his family running the hotel, said.
"However with Christmas holidays being the ideal opportunity to spend quality time with our families, we're asking our younger guests to set their consoles and games aside for just a few days of the year and, instead, sample some new activities which they may never have tried before."
Thought to be Scotland's oldest family-run hotel, Crieff Hydro is offering ceilidhs, family quizzes, Highland games, archery, quad biking, badminton, squash and outdoor laser quest during the season.
