17/09/2009 - Farmers join police in crime fight

Gloucestershire Constabulary is collaborating with members of the agricultural industry to help them protect their businesses from criminals in the county.

Officers are discussing ideas with the agricultural industry and the Metropolitan Police's Plant and Agricultural National Intelligence Unit.

Detective Inspector Sue Bradshaw and Pc Jon Palfrey attended the Tillage Show in Down Ampney, Cirencester, to promote crime prevention methods for farm equipment.

A plant machinery marking scheme has also been introduced as part of the initiative. It can help prevent thefts and also make it more likely that items can be recovered and returned to their rightful owner if stolen.

DI Bradshaw said: "Events such as this are the ideal opportunity for us to engage with the rural and agricultural community and discuss how we can work together to prevent and detect crime.

"It also enables us to offer reassurance to members of the agricultural community that we do take all incidents of rural and agricultural crime seriously and will deal proactively with any problems or concerns."
