09/04/2010 - Drink-drive bike instructor banned

A motorcycle instructor who was found to be nearly four times the drink-drive limit and fell off her bike during a lesson has been banned from driving for three years.

Sandra Kenyon, 46, of Hipperholme, West Yorkshire, who fell off three times as she gave a lesson in Bradford last month, was also ordered to do 200 hours unpaid work.

Bingley Magistrates' Court heard Kenyon had 131 micrograms of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath - almost four times the legal limit of 35mg - and police later found two brandy bottles in her jacket.

The mother-of-two, who had admitted riding a motorcycle while over the legal limit at a previous hearing, was arrested during a lesson on March 3.

Nadine Clough, prosecuting, said Mrs Kenyon dropped her bike on the ground shortly after setting off from Holme Wood in Bradford, and was "on the floor again" soon after.

The court heard she set off again towards Shipley, but as pupil Philip Hopkins approached a roundabout he could not see Mrs Kenyon following him.

Miss Clough said: "Over the radio link he heard Mrs Kenyon describe her leg was hurting. He realised she may have fallen off again."
