04/08/2010 - 15 hotel guests suddenly get sick
At least 15 people attending a wedding reception at a hotel in Staffordshire suddenly became ill, the Health Protection Agency has said.
Food poisoning and norovirus have been cited as possible causes of the sudden sickness.
Ambulances were called to attend the JCB Lakeside Club in Rocester, Uttoxeter, on Friday night, with four guests having to be taken to hospital. An HPA spokeswoman said people had symptoms such as diarrhoea and vomiting.
Investigators are looking at samples taken from the guests to establish what has happened. The spokeswoman said: "There were 15 people taken ill and the West Midlands Ambulance Service went out to this wedding party at the social club. Four of them were taken to hospital but they were discharged the same evening.
"We managed to get samples from two of them and if we manage to grow cultures off them we will hopefully have the results from that by about Tuesday. We don't know at this stage whether it's food poisoning or norovirus."
