09/08/2010 - Paintings worth £230,000 stolen
Three paintings worth £230,000, one by sculptor Sir Henry Moore, have been stolen from a gallery of Trinity House Pictures Limited.
According to a West Mercia Police spokesman, a four-man gang, possibly including teenagers, is believed to be behind the theft at High Street, Broadway, Worcestershire.
The gang, wearing dark clothing and hats, ran off towards The Green when the alarm went off, waking up a man in a neighbouring property.
Although no vehicle was spotted, the police believe there was one waiting elsewhere in the village and have urged anyone with information about the gang to contact the authorities.
The paintings stolen were Edward Seago's £65,000 Thames Barges At Low Water, Pin Mill, Sir Henry Moore's £45,000 Three Reclining Figures On Pedestals and the £120,000 In The Lily Garden with On The Sand Dunes on the reverse by Dorothea Sharp.
Simon Shore, co-owner of Trinity House Pictures Limited, said: "All three of these easily-recognised pictures were painted by very well known English artists and are likely to be of interest to English collectors.
"Unfortunately, there are a few who will not be concerned about how they come by them."
