06/08/2010 - Vandal attack costs church '£7,000'
A vandal attack has caused a Shropshire church damages costing more than £7,000, police have said.
Reports say that a hand-made Victorian leaded window ended up smashed following vandal activities at St Mary's Church in Cleobury Mortimer.
While the church has been victim to anti-social activities in the past, especially during school holidays, there is no evidence yet saying that youths were behind the latest damage.
A police spokeswoman said: "The damage caused to the church and the window in particular is extensive and is likely to cost upwards of £7,000 to repair.
"If anybody saw suspicious persons in the area or who has any information as to who was responsible, police would urge them to get in touch."
She added: "Somebody in the area must have seen something, as the church is on one of the main roads in the town and the vandalism happened in the middle of the day, when a lot of people would have been about."
