20/12/2010 - Classic TV ad feather 'stolen'

A feather that was used in a famous TV ad of the 1980s has been stolen from Britain's highest pub, the establishment's owner has said.

The feature featured in the advertisement for double glazing company Everest filmed at the Tan Hill Inn, near Richmond, North Yorkshire.

It had been displayed on the wall of the pub, which is located 1,732ft above sea level, ever since. It was mounted next to a picture of the late Ted Moult, who starred in the advert.

In the popular ad, Moult drops the feather next to a window as a gale raged outside.

Owner Tracy Daley said: "I am gutted. I would say 85% of our new customers at some point mention the advert. It's a piece of TV history. People look at the picture and say: I remember that."

She believes a stag party from the Leeds area which visited in the last few months may know the whereabouts of the feather.

Ms Daley has offered a reward for the safe return of the feather.

She said: "I would love to see it back."

Moult, a farmer-turned-radio and TV personality, was remembered for the adverts and his line: "Fit the best, fit Everest."
