02/02/2010 - Blaze sees seaside hotel evacuated
Nearly 30 people have been evacuated from a Bournemouth hotel after a fire broke out in one of its bedrooms.
Some 26 residents and two members of staff were cleared from the 114-room Heathlands hotel in Grove Road, a spokesperson for the fire and rescue service said.
Around 100 firefighters tackled the blaze, thought to have started in a second-floor bedroom before spreading through the roof space.
Area manager and incident commander Ben Ansell said: "Crews have done a really good job in containing the spread of this fire.
"At this moment we are unsure of the extent of the damage caused and also do not know the cause of the fire but we will be conducting an investigation as soon as we are able to."
The fire was eventually put out and crews are now damping down and checking for hot-spots.
