18/02/2010 - Second head-shop fire reported
An investigation is under way after a fire at a so-called head-shop in Dublin - the second to occur at such premises in a week, it has emerged.
The blaze broke out at the Happy Hippy store, which sells legal highs, on Tuesday evening. A forensic investigation will be carried out by the fire brigade in a bid to identify how the blaze at the North Frederick Street building started. The shop front sustained minor damage in the incident.
The fire came just days after a suspected arson attack at the Nirvana store in Capel Street. It is unlikely that the cause of the first blaze will be established following authorities' decision to pull the building down over safety reasons.
The shop and two retail units next to it were engulfed by the fire, which broke out following a loud bang. The incidents came amid controversy over head-shops selling legal highs in the area, with allegations surfacing that the attack on the Nirvana shop was part of a campaign against the business.
