05/01/2010 - Beehives at London hotel rooftop
Guests at a central London hotel are being served with honey from the beehives installed on its rooftop.
Currently, some 500,000 bees are providing honey for breakfast and afternoon tea for around half a million extra guests at The Lancaster London Hotel - which was formerly known as The Royal Lancaster Hotel - situated near Hyde Park.
While VIPs and honeymooning guests are offered pots of honey, the wax from the hives are used for creating candles for gifts.
Before being shifted to the new site, the bees were living in the middle of an estate at Camberwell, in south London.
The capital is said to be a perfect place for bees due to its variety of flowers, parks and temperate climate.
Bees are known for their role in pollination, and they normally forage up to three miles from their colony.
