18/01/2010 - Bus driver abducted at knifepoint
A woman bus driver has been abducted and robbed by a knife-wielding passenger, police have revealed. The 43-year-old driver was confronted by the armed passenger and forced to drive more than two miles after dropping off passengers in Blantyre on Sunday night.
The attacker was hiding in the front passenger side of the Station Coaches minibus while it was parked in a yard on John Street. When the woman climbed on board after parking up her original vehicle, she was forced to drive the bus to a car park in the Whitehill area of Blantyre, where she was robbed of a three-figure sum. The man discarded the silver Volkswagen transporter minibus keys before escaping on foot.
Detective Sergeant Bob Bryce said: "This was a particularly frightening experience for the woman, although fortunately she was not harmed. I would appeal to anyone who saw the suspect hanging around the area of John Street prior to this incident or saw him with the victim at the car park in Bothwell to come forward. I would also ask anyone who has information about this crime or the suspect to speak to police."
