27/01/2010 - Help for firms to cut energy bills
Companies are being encouraged to help save British industry £3 billion by slashing their energy bills by up to 30%.
The Carbon Trust said many firms are concerned about rising bills and will offer free advice to those which spend between £50,000 and £3 million a year on energy, including the services of an expert to draw up a plan. A survey of 700 businesses showed construction, manufacturing and hospitality firms were among the sectors most concerned by an increase in costs.
Kingfisher chief executive Ian Cheshire, who helped launch the campaign, said: "It is simply good business sense to be smarter about the way we use energy. It cuts costs, makes us more efficient and improves our reputation with customers. I would encourage any business that has yet to embark on the energy efficiency journey to pick up the phone and book in a Carbon Trust survey."
Mr Cheshire said Kingfisher-owned B&Q had worked with the Carbon Trust since 2008 and had saved 10,000 tonnes of CO2 and cut energy costs during that time. Measures introduced by the retailer include improvements to heating and lighting, changes to buildings and encouraging employees to save energy.
