02/07/2010 - Fireworks firm owner admits fraud
A firework company worker was left blind in one eye at a public display because a fraudulent boss failed to follow health and safety law.
At Bristol Crown Court, JWP Fireworks owner Jason Edgecombe admitted forging a public liability insurance certificate as well as breaching safety legislation.
He had earlier been prosecuted and fined for refusing to co-operate with the investigation into the accident, which happened in Keynsham in May 2008.
The court hearing on Monday was the result of an investigation by Bath and North East Somerset Council.
Edgecombe, from Mangotsfield, was only able to buy the firework which caused the injury because he showed a fireworks firm the fake certificate.
He was bailed to return to the court for sentencing in August after he admitted three fraud charges and a breach of health and safety regulations.
