20/07/2010 - Last guest has 'norovirus symptoms'

A guest at a Glasgow city centre hotel is still suffering from norovirus symptoms after a suspected outbreak of the bug at the five-star hotel.

An investigation was launched by NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHSGGC) after guests at the Hilton Glasgow complained of diarrhoea and vomiting.

Current and future guests have been told that the William Street hotel is "fully operational" by NHSGGC consultants. However, those staying in the hotel have been urged to adhere to "strict hygiene rules".

Two people were taken to hospital, but were released on Monday. The one remaining guest suffering from symptoms is the last out of 58 guests and 17 employees who have been affected by the virus at the hotel since July 14.

Chair of the outbreak control team, Dr Anne Scoular, said the team at the Hilton has been working hard to contain the outbreak. She added that the situation will be "monitored very closely".

She continued: "We continue to be satisfied with the broad range of measures, including a programme of extensive cleaning using anti-viral agents, that have been put in place together with the Hilton team to contain the illness."
