23/07/2010 - More than 100 struck by 'norovirus'
More than 100 people at a five-star Glasgow hotel, including guests and staff, have been hit by what health officials suspect is the norovirus bug.
NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHSGGC) has been investigating the outbreak after guests and members of staff at the Hilton hotel complained of diarrhoea and vomiting.
A total of 80 guests and 27 members of staff have been struck by the vomiting bug since July 14. The hotel is now operating as normal.
Dr Gillian Penrice, chair of the outbreak control team, said the number of cases was decreasing rapidly. She also thanked staff at the Hilton for their "excellent help".
She continued: "We will continue to monitor the situation very closely and our advice to guests and staff in the hotel is to continue to follow the strict hygiene rules including regular hand washing. Once again I would like to thank staff at the Hilton for their excellent help and cooperation with us."
There have been no new cases in the last 24 hours, however. There are also no longer any guests with symptoms staying at the William Street hotel.
