22/07/2010 - Olympic worker injured in fall

A worker suffered a suspected broken arm after falling from scaffolding in an incident that shut down part of the Olympic site in London.

Work on the No.1 block in the Olympic Village was stopped while an investigation took place following the incident. It was confirmed a scaffolder working on the athlete's village fell 3m.

He was taken to hospital, where he is currently being treated, and work on the site has now restarted. The Olympic Delivery Authority (ODA) is investigating.

An ODA spokesperson said: "A scaffolder working on the Olympic Village site fell a short distance, sustaining a suspected broken arm.

"The on-site medical team attended immediately, quickly followed by the ambulance service who have driven the worker to hospital for further treatment. The incident is being thoroughly looked into to ensure the high safety record we have achieved across the site so far is maintained."

Bovis is the contractor on the Olympic Village. However, the company were unable to confirm if the scaffolder was an employee.
