15/03/2010 - 'Man arrested' after nightclub fire

Staff and police led revellers to safety after fire broke out at a nightclub.

According to BBC reports, a man has been arrested on suspicion of arson after 230 people were evacuated from The Rhino Club in Southampton, Hampshire, at 2.15am on Saturday.

The fire broke out on the second floor of the two-storey building when the nightclub was full, but no-one was hurt.

Six fire engines, an aerial ladder and two fire support vehicles attended the fire.

An investigation has been launched by Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service and the police into the cause of the fire, which is thought was started deliberately.

A fire service spokesman said: "The first floor of the property was lightly damaged by smoke and the roof was moderately damaged by heat and smoke."
