19/03/2010 - Probe after lorry pushes car up A1

A haulage firm has launched an investigation after one its lorries was caught on camera pushing a car along the A1 at high speed.

The footage, shot on a mobile phone, shows an Arclid Transport vehicle travelling in the fast lane near Wetherby, West Yorkshire, with a blue Renault Clio trapped sideways under its bumper. The driver of the lorry is seemingly unaware of the car's predicament.

Apparently filmed in January by people travelling on the same road, the driver of the Clio, who has not been identified, appears to be trying to release the car from the lorry by pressing the brakes.

It is believed that no-one was injured in the incident.

An Arclid Transport spokesman said: "I've no idea if the video is genuine. We're actually doing an internal investigation at the moment."

West Yorkshire Police confirmed they were investigating the collision.
