03/03/2010 - Robbers steal money from bookmakers
Two thieves have robbed a bookmakers in Sunderland, escaping with cash from the till.
A female staff member was threatened and struck by one of the thieves, who stole her handbag. She suffered minor injuries and the thieves, both men, escaped on foot from the William Hill bookmakers on Sea Road. The woman did not need hospital treatment, said police.
Another female member of staff was in the shop at the time. She was not hurt. There were no customers on the premises.
Sergeant Gary Dickson said: "This was an isolated incident and thankfully the member of staff was not seriously injured.
"The public can be assured that we are doing everything possible to find these offenders, and I would urge anyone with any information to call police immediately."
