18/03/2010 - Shrewsbury robbery appeal issued
Detectives in Shrewsbury have issued an appeal asking people to report if they saw a JCB tele-handler used during an attempted robbery.
The construction vehicle was used to smash through a wall at industrial premises on Lancaster Road, Shrewsbury, on Tuesday night.
Detective Inspector Mick Homden, of West Mercia Police, said that the vehicle was stolen from a Persimmon Homes building site in Ditherington at around 5.30pm.
Stating that the vehicle, which looks like a JCB digger, could have been driven to the crime site, the detective urged anyone who spotted it to report to police.
He said: "It is likely to have been driven up Ditherington Road, turning left into Mount Pleasant Road and then right into Lancaster Road - a distance of about a mile. This is a built-up area and it was at a busy time of day."
Police said that the offenders left the crime site empty-handed in a black Audi car.
