07/05/2010 - Burka-wearing man in jewellery raid

A man wearing a burka was part of a gang that raided a jewellery shop, police said.

The raider used the black head-to-toe garment, favoured by some Muslim women, and a hijab or face veil, to gain entry to the shop in Bury.

Once buzzed in, the 6ft raider and three other men - one wielding a shotgun - barged into the shop.

The gang stole a large amount of bangles, rings and lockets, before escaping in a waiting car, thought to be a silver Toyota Yaris.

Police are now hunting five men, all Asian, thought to be involved in the raid, which took place at about 4.15pm on Thursday at Capri Jewellers on Benson Street.
