09/11/2010 - Charity store auctions 'Dali' print
A purported lithograph of a Salvador Dali work - which could be worth $2,000-$3,000 (£1,250-£1,875) if found to be authentic - is being auctioned off at a Colorado Goodwill charity store.
The Grand Junction shop, which received the work from a mystery donor, does not plan to hire an expert to verify its authenticity.
Manager Bill Atwell said the store - operated by Goodwill Industries - was "here just to raise money for our programmes", and hence would let people bid for the piece and determine its value on their own.
A customer recently pointed out the signature on the print of The Discovery of America by Christopher Columbus, which was numbered 168 out of 300.
The original painting is in the Salvador Dali Museum in St Petersburg, Florida.
Mark Winter of Art Experts in Daytona Beach, Florida, which appraises and authenticates artwork, said the piece in Grand Junction could possibly be real as it was numbered.
