07/10/2010 - Farmer fined for polluting stream
A Lincolnshire farmer has been ordered to pay more than £14,000 after he was convicted of polluting a stream, according to the Environment Agency.
Ronald Duguid, 69, of Spital-in-the-Street, allowed slurry from manure heaps to leak into the Black Dyke Stream, an agency spokeswoman said.
Magistrates in Lincoln fined Duguid £8,000 and ordered him to pay costs of £6,425.
In mitigation, Duguid's lawyer said the farmer had since invested in "new systems" to guard against future pollution.
