26/10/2010 - Hostel hit by suspected norovirus
A suspected outbreak of the norovirus bug has left over 20 people ill at the Glasgow Euro Hostel, according to health chiefs.
Symptoms such as diarrhoea and vomiting have been displayed by 23 guests and a member of staff at the hostel, NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHSGGC) said, adding that none of them are giving cause for concern.
Health officers have put in place infection control measures.
There have been two suspected outbreaks of norovirus - also known as the winter vomiting disease - at Glasgow hotels in recent months.
In July, norovirus was found to have affected 63 guests and 20 members of staff at the Hilton hotel in the city centre.
Last month, 15 guests and four members of staff at the Glasgow Marriott hotel on Argyle Street fell ill in a suspected outbreak of the bug.
Norovirus, which can spread easily from person to person and can survive for many days in a contaminated area, causes nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, and in some cases fever, headache and stomach cramps.
