02/09/2010 - Air rifles stolen from Gleneagles

A number of air rifles have been stolen from a luxury hotel in Perthshire after it was robbed at the weekend, according to police.

The nine Weihrauch HW 100 rifles, which were taken from the grounds of Gleneagles in Auchterarder between 10.15 and 10.30 in the morning, are still missing.

Police are eager to speak to two men, who were in a black Mercedes with damaged doors.

One of the men was described as being in his mid-thirties with short ginger hair and a green camouflage jacket. There was no description for the other man.

The hotel has denied that ammunition was stolen.

In a statement, it said: "These guns are intended for use by young adults and adults for target practice under strict supervision.

"As the incident is the subject of a police investigation, it would be inappropriate to comment further".
