13/09/2010 - UK visits see annual rise of 5%
The estimated number of overseas residents who visited the UK in July rose year-on-year by 5%, official figures have shown.
The Office for National Statistics found that foreign residents made 3.24 million visits to the UK in July 2010, compared with nearly 3.09 million in July 2009.
Total spending by overseas visitors to the UK increased by 16% to £1.96 billion in July 2010, compared with the £1.69 billion figure in July 2009.
This brought the January-July 2010 earnings total to £9.23 billion - a year-on-year rise of 2%.
The figures also found that the total number of visits abroad by UK residents saw a slight dip in July, with visits to North America seeing a significant decrease.
