18/02/2011 - Bed bug 'factsheet' for landlords

A new guidance has been produced for landlords and tenants giving out information on bed bugs and ways to tackle the parasites, following reports of infestation spreading worldwide.

The factsheet has been developed by the Residential Landlords' Association and can be downloaded from the organisation's website.

It gives information ranging from how the bed bugs look like to advice on the various methods for pest control. Separate sections have been designed for landlords and tenants.

The move follows reports that a bed bug infestation in New York has been sweeping across to London as the pests are carried over by air passengers in their luggage and clothing.

The insects, known as Cimicidae, find tiny nooks and crevices in bedrooms and lounge areas and make their way into clothing and bags.

Bed Bugs Limited, a service that helps businesses and landlords control the infestation, is supporting the association's initiative.
