Many of the tools used by hair and beauty professionals can cut, heat up or stain. So, there's a risk that if a mishap happens, a client could get injured. The products used during hair and beauty treatments also have the potential to cause harm. For example, a product could cause an allergic reaction or rash, or even chemical damage to your clients' property.
The consequences of even a minor mistake can be serious, so you need to get the right insurance based on what your business does and where it does it from.
From public, products and treatments liability insurance to cover for business stock and theft of takings, you can create a policy that suits your business.
You can even change your cover options at any time with no admin fees to pay. So, you only pay for the cover that your business requires.
If you have an existing quote or policy with us, you can view and download your policy documents from the My Account page.
We tailor all our policies, so your documents only show what you've chosen to cover.
Here is a summary of a generic policy, from 13 November 2024 onwards, which shows the main covers and exclusions in our policies.
Hair & Beauty Insurance is a cover created specifically for hair and beauty salon owners, and freelance beauty consultants, to cover the risks associated with these types of businesses. Based on your business type (salon/mobile) and requirements (a business/self-employment), a Direct Line for Business policy should cover all the elements specified by you when getting a Hair and Beauty Insurance quote. This means you won't have to pay for cover that you or your business may not need.
Accidents happen all the time so obtaining beauty insurance will give you peace of mind. You can choose the elements of cover you require so if its cover for your premises, your business contents or stock, you can cover these against fire, theft and damage.
Product liability comes as standard with our Beauty Insurance policy and covers you if a client sues you following an allergic reaction to a product you supplied.
Public liability covers you against claims from customers or members of the public if you've damaged their property or they've injured themselves at your premises. For example, if a customer tripped over a power cord in your salon or home and hit their head. It doesn't cover you for injury caused by treatments though.
Product liability provides cover for legal claims brought against your business for any harm caused by products that you sell or provide to clients. This cover is included with public liability insurance as standard on all of our Hair and Beauty policies.
Treatments liability will cover you if a customer sues you due to a treatment you've carried out causing them harm. If you take out the cover, you'll be insured as long as you're insured with us for that particular treatment and you're qualified to carry it out.
